Miss International Malaysia (Sarawak) a celebration of diversity and inclusivity

KUCHING, May 10: Sarawak is no stranger to beauty pageants, having hosted numerous pageantries in the past, showcasing beauty, talent and promoting cultural heritage.

As such, pageantry has become an effective means of promoting tourism, as they attract a global audience and generate a great deal of publicity to its host.

“Beauty pageants play an integral role in promoting tourism by attracting visitors from different regions.

“Additionally, they provide opportunities for local businesses to showcase their products and services to tourists who come during these events,” said Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Snowdan Lawan when officiating the Miss International Malaysia (Sarawak) event at the Waterfront Hotel, here today.

Organised by the International Culture Association, Miss International Sarawak aims to provide a platform for young women aged between 18 to 28 years to showcase their talents and promote the state’s cultural heritage to the world.

Being the fourth largest pageant in the world, its State Director, Dato Raymond Jolly said the beauty pageant is not just a competition, but a celebration of diversity and inclusivity.

“We believe that beauty comes in all shapes, sizes, and colors, and we want to provide a platform for women from all backgrounds to showcase their unique talents and abilities.

“Miss International Sarawak focuses and sights on giving back to the society through the many aspects of community services in creating a platform of beauty queens working towards making an impact in the various sectors including tourism, arts, culture, women empowerment, livelihood, and socio economy,” he added.

Registration is now open for all eligible Sarawakians age 18 years of age and no older than 28 years of age by this year 2023.

Contestant must be single, never married, nor given birth to a child. She must be of good health and moral character. And must not have been convicted of a felony crime. She must be a naturally born female.
