SESA inks cooperation with NACL for e-sports development

KUCHING, Nov 30: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was inked between Sarawak E-Sports Association (SESA) and The North American Collegiate League (NACL) to further nurture talents in the sports.

Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED), Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the cooperation will elevate the local e-sports industry in Sarawak to greater heights.

“Our cooperation will centre around the segment of e-sports leagues with a strategic model that will produce world-class e-sports athletes.

“One of our Sarawakian athletes, Nadrah Saufi won the gold medal in the Commonwealth E-Sports Championships in Birmingham, while during the last Sukan Malaysia (SUKMA) XX MSN 2022, Sarawak managed to win bronze for DOTA 2,” said Karim in his ministerial winding up speech during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting on Wednesday.

He added to further promote participation of e-sports locally, his ministry and SESA will be organising the Sarawak E-Sports Expo 2023 in February.

“The program will consists of E-Sports Forum and Workshop, Grand Final of My Borneo E-Force Invitational 2.0, Sarawak E-Sports Championship 2023 and gaming peripheral expo & healthy exhibition.

“Last year’s expo successfully attracted 3,000 participants,” said the minister.

At grassroots level, Karim said MYSED have held various competitive training platforms including E-Sport Sarawak X-Tive @ Gedong, Sarawak Youth Day E-Sports Challenge 2022, Malaysia E-Sports League and State Level of the National Sports Day. – TVS
